The temple has an ancient chime taken from a shipwreck, donated by the captain of Dutch ship which sank beside Varkala without causing any casualties.

The hilltop mausoleum of Sree Narayana Guru is one of the most well known monuments in Kerala. The adjacent hill house the East-West University of Brahmavidya and Sree Narayana Gurukulam.
